Team UnLimbited’s Favourite Halloween Costumes

Boo! 👻 Get your pumpkins out because it’s spooky season. Every Halloween we love to see the awesome costumes that people with limb difference wear. This year, we’ve decided to share some particularly epic ones with you!

For all the Star Wars fans

If you’re a Star Wars fan, we think that you will love these costumes!

This epic Sith Lord costume is by Trace Wilson. The details are simply incredible. Trace has really gone the extra mile with the lightsaber prosthetic attachment.

Thankfully, we have a Jedi to fight the Sith Lord thanks to Angel Giuffria! Angel looks heroic in her Jedi costume which is complete with another epic lightsaber prosthetic attachment.

Before we get asked, unfortunately we can’t make a lightsaber prosthetic attachment (we want one too though!).

It’s fun to be at sea

If Star Wars isn’t up your street, pirates have proven time and time again to be a popular costume for those with limb difference.

This is the young Alexis from Stump Kitchen sporting a classic Captain Hook costume when she was 12 years old. When she posted this costume on Instagram, Alexis said:

“This was a costume I was really excited about for a few reasons:

  • It was the first time I identified with a character in relation to my limb difference!

  • I love the fact that Captain Hook is a little evil.

  • My favourite part of this costume was how realistic the hook on my left arm looked - it didn't hang down as low as when folks with two hands dress like Captain Hook.

  • I looked pretty swanky, if I do say so myself.

This is probably one of the coolest, most validating costumes I ever wore, and I felt like I was the only one in my school who could do it really well.”

We agree, Alexis does look pretty swanky!

Alexis isn’t the only one to go for the pirate theme. Adaptive athlete, Jamie Gane shows that lower limbed amputees know exactly how to win at Halloween too! We love the addition of the octopus, it’s not something we’ve seen before.

Pirates aren’t the only sea-based costume we found in our search for great Halloween costumes. Kelsey Ryan Hartman made us chuckle with this Instagram post which she captioned “Alright, because I have to keep explaining myself...THIS is how it happened 🦈”

Not spooky enough?

If those costumes weren’t spooky enough for the hardcore Halloween lovers out there, we found these extra spooky costumes too!

Makeup vlogger, open bionics ambassador and recent winner of CBBC's Got What It Takes Competition, Tilly Lockey has two haunting Halloween costumes. A spooky clown and a gory cyborg. They’re both epic!

When she is not dressing up as a Sith Lord, Angel has plenty of other costumes in her repertoire including this awesome skeleton prom queen costume. The bony arm is a nice touch!

King of Halloween

We couldn’t write a blog about limb difference Halloween costumes without mentioning the King of Halloween, Josh Sundquist.

Way back in 2010, Josh dressed up as the Gingerbread man from Shrek for Halloween. Little did he know this would be the start of something big.

In 2012, Josh dressed up as the lamp from A Christmas Story. A friend shared it on Reddit and Josh went viral. From that year onwards Josh became a Halloween pro, producing costumes that got cooler each year!

In 2013, Josh showed off his balancing skills as a flamingo.

In 2014, Josh stepped it up once again with a foosball costume, which was very appropriate as in that year he played for the US Amputee World Cup Football Team.

2015 saw Josh transform himself into the much loved American restaurant chain, IHOP (pun intended!).

Then in 2016, he wowed us all as Lumiere. With this costume, Josh could probably get a job at Disneyland if he wanted to.

In 2017, Josh bounced around as the much-loved childhood character Tigger.

In 2018, you really would have thought Josh was magical when he dressed up as Genie from Aladdin.

2019 is one of our favourites! Josh became the Pixar Lamp.

We get a lot of requests for superhero arms so we know you will love this one. In 2020, Josh was Baby Groot.

We wonder what Josh will be dressing up as this year. No doubt it will be great!
